Makafi promises to restructure Nigeria if elected

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, one of the frontline Presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday promised to restructure Nigeria and ensure the security of lives and property of citizens if nominated and elected President of Nigeria next year.

Addressing Edo State PDP leaders and supporters at the Party’s secretariat in Benin City, Makarfi said the issue of insecurity across Nigeria had become endemic since the inception of the APC administration.

He said security is not a political issue, adding that Boko Haram, herdsmen/communities crisis and other forms of criminalities should not be politicised.

“If elected, I will place emphasis on equipment of security agencies as well as giving them targets,” he said.

The former PDP Chairman also promised to address the issue of generation and distribution of power, remove leakages in power distribution, localise power generation and give extra to the national grid.

On the fight against corruption, Makarfi said, “We should stop politicising the fight against corruption and if elected I will face corruption headlong.

Daily independent reports Makarfi saying that he was at home in Edo State poured encomium on Chief Tony Anenih, saying that he could not have excelled as caretaker chairman without the support of all party members.

He said he did not believe that for the role he played he should be the sole candidate of the party for the Presidency, adding that all who are keen should have a level playing field.

The former Kaduna State governor recalled that it was under him that 80 percent of Kaduna was given electricity.

He said he was going round the country by road to see the nation’s problems first hand rather than flying.

He said as President he would maintain a policy of full disclosure of all incomes and expenditure by the Federal Government.

He said he was offered Senator by APC in Kaduna but he rejected it because of the overall interest of the party.

He said, “APC is a concoction that is not good for any ailment. I have worked for my party and the party is bigger than an individual. I have never left the party as I believe every good gift is from God.”

He said he was happy that he was available to rescue the party.

He said he did not suddenly decide to run for Presidency but that he has always been interested, just as he said the Presidency was not about money.

The PDP, he said, need a good product and if it does pick a good one, Nigerians will rally round such a product.

He said he opposed giving the chairmanship to Modu Sheriff at the time, adding that he was happy that he was available to rescue the party.

In his remark, Edo State PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, said, “We want to make a passionate appeal to all aspirants coming to Edo to speak on issues and not seek to run each other down.”
