The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the 2027 general elections are free, fair and credible.
The forum’s spokesperson, Dr Legborsi Yamaabana, made the call during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday, urging political actors across the Niger Delta to respect democratic principles and ensure peaceful elections.
Yamaabana urged INEC to remain impartial and transparent in the discharge of its duties, stressing that the elections must be conducted in line with existing electoral laws.
He also cautioned youths in the Niger Delta against engaging in political violence, electoral manipulation or allowing themselves to be used by politicians for personal interests.
“We are warning our youths against allowing themselves to be used by desperate politicians before, during and after the elections,” he said.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to peace, justice, accountability and the protection of the collective interests of the people of the Niger Delta.
He disclosed that the group would make its position on the 2027 general elections public in the coming days.
According to him, the forum would pursue its resolutions through policy petitions, dialogue with relevant institutions, public monitoring and peaceful civic engagement.
Yamaabana also called on governments at all levels to support efforts to ensure peaceful, transparent and credible elections in 2027.
