Ahead of the forthcoming commissioning of the Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Moses Teibowei, has announced movement restriction on the road.
Teibowei noted that the road would be closed from 6:00am on Saturday, April 18, to Monday, April 20, 2026.
In a statement on Friday, April 17,2026, the commissioner urged motorists, residents and commercial tipper drivers to use alternative routes.
He revealed that the temporary closure was necessitated by the need to allow for a thorough clean-up and final preparations of the read ahead of the commission ceremony.
The road which would be inaugurated on Monday, April 20, by the former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will serve as a bypass for those living in Agbura and some communities in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.
Final asphalting on the 5.3km Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road was done on January 16, 2026 by Oakman construction company, which increased residents excitement over the rehabilitation of the road which had been in deplorable conditions.
Teibowei commended natives and residents of the state for their cooperation and understanding during the period of construction of the road.
Further, on behalf of the governor, Senator Douye Diri’s led administration, Teibowei invited Bayelsans and the general public to the commissioning ceremony.
His words: “This is to inform residents, motorists, and commercial tipper drivers that the recently completed Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road will be closed to traffic from 6.00 am on Saturday, April 18, 2026, to Monday, April 20, 2026.
“The road is scheduled to be commissioned on Monday, April 20, 2026 by the former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
“The temporary closure is necessary to allow for a thorough clean-up and final preparation of the road ahead of the commissioning ceremony.
“During this period, motorists are advised to use alternative routes. We also use this medium to invite all Bayelsans and the general public to the commissioning event.”
