Ozuoha Residents Call for Support for Vigilante Group

Residents of Ozuoha community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have appealed to the state government to support the operations of the local vigilante group, OSPAC, to sustain peace and security in the area.

Some indigenes who spoke in separate interviews praised the group for its efforts in safeguarding lives and property, noting that its presence has significantly reduced criminal activities in the community.

One of the residents, Mrs. Chioma Sunday, said the improved security situation has boosted economic activities, as traders and buyers can now carry out their businesses without fear of harassment or attacks by hoodlums.

Also speaking was a kidnapping victim, Mr. Nnah Promise, who was rescued by OSPAC operatives, and expressed gratitude to the group, describing their intervention as life-saving. Another indigene, Mr. Kingsley Obodo, added that the vigilante group has created a safer environment for the execution of community projects, free from interference by miscreants.

The residents emphasized that the continued operation of OSPAC is crucial to maintaining the relative peace currently enjoyed in Ozuoha. They, however, stressed the need for government assistance, including logistics and funding, to strengthen the group’s capacity.

They expressed optimism that with adequate support from the Rivers State Government, OSPAC would be better equipped to sustain security and further enhance development in the community.
