Tension Rises In Bonny Following Abduction of Businessman

Kidnnaper

A palpable feeling of unease swept through Bonny, Rivers State, after a businessman (name withheld) was abducted from his residence.

Witnesses informed The Port City News (TPCN) that the abduction took place between 7 and 8 pm on Monday, March 23, 2026, in the Aganya Community of Bonny Local Government Area.

They revealed that the kidnappers, three in total, were masked and armed with AK-47 rifles, and they fired three shots into the air to intimidate onlookers.

TPCN also discovered that the assailants had followed their target to his residence, where they instructed his son to exit from his car, which was reportedly a sedan. It was said that they led the young boy into the house before taking his father away.

Another group of witnesses indicated that the criminals drove onto Macaulay Street across from the Bonny Government Lodge, where they left the vehicle and fled into the dark via the Admiralty Creek.

Interestingly, security analysts voiced their concern about how effortlessly the criminals managed to get away with their victim, despite the presence of various security forces at the Coal Beach area of the Admiralty Creek.

On the opposite side of the Admiralty Creek, naval personnel from the Forward Operating Base Bonny are stationed at the waterfront near Coconut Estate.

They expressed worries that, with troops from the 146 Battalion Nigerian Army, Forward Operating Base Bonny, Marine Police, and the Department of State Services positioned at both ends of the Admiralty Creek, it is puzzling how the criminals could have made their escape.

Investigations indicate that the Macaulay Creek merges with the Admiralty Creek, having no alternative outlets apart from the Coal Beach axis, which links the Bonny Channel to the Okpoma axis that flows into Asarama River on the eastern side and Alasiakiri on the western side.

Residents from the Aganya Community, who requested anonymity, urged the authorities to move quickly in rescuing their neighbor and enhancing security within the Local Government Area (LGA).

A security expert, who preferred anonymity, stated that the situation highlights the severe lack of security in the LGA.

He emphasized that the current leadership at the Bonny Local Government appears more focused on next year’s elections rather than fulfilling their responsibilities.
