Eid-el-Fitr: Fubara Charges Muslims on Unity, Tolerance

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged Muslims in the state to reflect ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, scheduled for March 20, 2026.

Eid-el-Fitr, observed worldwide, marks the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, to journalists in Port Harcourt, the governor conveyed his message.

He extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in the state and across Nigeria as they marked Eid al-Fitr.

In his goodwill message, Fubara expressed hope that the celebration would foster peace and joy among Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or language.

He encouraged citizens, including Muslims, to embrace their diversity and promote unity, tolerance and mutual respect.

Admonishing the Muslim faithful, the governor said, “Let us continue to uphold the values of compassion, forgiveness and unity in our daily lives. Happy Eid al-Fitr.”

Earlier, The Port City News (TCPN) reported that the Federal Government, through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, declared 19 and 20 March as public holidays for the celebration.

Tunji-Ojo made the announcement and extended his congratulations to Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

He emphasised the need to sustain the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice beyond the fasting period.

The minister also urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for unity and stability in the country.

He further called on citizens to celebrate responsibly, support vulnerable groups and remember the Muslim community in their prayers.
