Court Sets Date for Hearing Suit Against Aaron Chukwuemeka

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has fixed the 14th of April, 2026 to hear all pending motions in a suit filed by three aggrieved members of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers State against the State factional Chairman of PDP, Amb. Aaron Chukwuemeka, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

Also listed as respondents in the matter are PDP, Rivers State government, Obio-Akpor Local Government Council, Port Harcourt City, and Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Councils, their Vice Chairmen and Counselors.

In an originating summon by Mr. Enyi Uchechukwu, Mr  Wisdom Kalio and Uche Amadi, the claimants asked the court to determine if the Aaron Chukwuemeka led PDP state executives on whose congresses that brought them have been nullified can validly submit list of candidates to the  Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission for the just concluded Local Government Area elections by virtue of the judgment of the Rivers State High Court delivered against their emergence.

The claimants also want the court to determine amongst other reliefs whether the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has presented a valid list of candidates to RSIEC through Aaron Chukwuemeka as to enable the candidates take part in the August 30th 2025 council elections.

When the matter came up in court on Tuesday 17 March, 2026, counsels to the PDP, Obio-Akpor, Onelga and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas who are Senior Advocates of Nigeria, informed the court that they were served the processes on friday, the 13th of March and asked for more time to reply on point of law.

Their oral applications were not opposed by the claimants counsel, Glory Chizim-Chinda and the presiding Judge, Justice Stephen Jumbo adjourned sitting to 14th of April, 2026 to hear all pending motions and deliver possible ruling before going into the substantive matter.
