It has been reported that the Nigeria Football Federation plans to offer Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle a monthly salary of $100,000 as negotiations continue with the Franco-Malian tactician.
New information regarding the discussions was shared with our correspondent by a well-placed source within the federation, who indicated that the football organization is willing to reassess Chelle’s current contract and accept some of the conditions he has suggested.
Nevertheless, the source emphasized that the federation cannot exceed the $100,000 monthly limit for the Malian coach.
Currently, Chelle receives $50,000 each month but has requested a new contract amounting to $130,000 monthly, a sum he claims would also accommodate the salaries of his technical staff members.
”We are open to revising Eric Chelle’s existing contract and are prepared to meet some of the terms he has proposed,” the source stated.
”The Federal Government and NFF desire continuity. If he reduces his demands, we would like him to remain, but we are not willing to offer more than $100,000 per month.”
The source also disclosed that if Chelle insists on the higher salary request, the federation may start looking for another foreign coach to lead the national team.
According to the source, the option of hiring a local coach has already been dismissed if negotiations with the current manager fail.
”Even if Chelle rejects the proposed terms, the NFF is not considering appointing a local coach and would instead seek a replacement from abroad,” the source added.
In the meantime, Chelle is anticipated to announce his squad for Nigeria’s forthcoming international friendlies during the next FIFA window.
