NUJ Rivers Council to Mark First Anniversary of Bazia-Led Executive

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Council’s Secretary, Dr. Ijeoma Tubosia, the union said the anniversary celebration would give members the opportunity to reflect on the administration’s performance since its inauguration on March 17, 2025.

According to the statement, activities marking the anniversary will begin on Monday, March 16, with a radio programme featuring the chairman, followed by a visit to a home for the elderly.

The celebration will continue on Tuesday, March 17, with a Special Congress, after which members will gather in a relaxed setting to interact and review the progress made under the “New Narrative of Development Journalism” championed by the Bazia-Nsaneh-led executive.

The statement added that the event would feature the unveiling of the first NUJ Rivers State Council standard website, the presentation of a renovated NUJ Press Centre, a refurbished union vehicle, new signage, payment of welfare packages to 22 members, and repairs to the council’s generator, among other initiatives.

It also noted that an appraisal session would be held to review achievements, address challenges and outline strategies to better serve members in the coming year.

The event is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre in Port Harcourt, with the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawo, expected to serve as Chief Host.

The anniversary activities will conclude with a thanksgiving service at Living Faith Church, El-Olam Avenue, Egbelu, on Sunday, March 22.

The union urged journalists in the state and friends of the media to attend the events in large numbers.
