RSU, UNIPORT, NDU Among 114 Universities Approved To Run Law Programs In Nigeria

The Rivers State University, University of Port Harcourt and Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, were among the 114 universities approved to run law programs in Nigeria. This was revealed in a list released by the Council of Legal Education on Friday, March 13, 2026.

According to the council, only listed universities are authorised to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in the country.

The council through its Secretary and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, warned that any university running a law programme without approval would face sanctions.

The council of legal education noted that only “students admitted into unapproved law programmes would not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

“The public is further informed that any university that admits students into a law programme without the approval of the Council of Legal Education is acting contrary to the provisions regulating legal education in Nigeria and will be subject to appropriate sanctions.”

Further, the council assured that it would continue to update the list in line with its mandate to regulate legal education in Nigeria.

The Council of Legal Education, established under the Legal Education Act, is the statutory body responsible for the professional training and regulation of aspiring lawyers in Nigeria.

It oversees the Nigerian Law School and ensures that legal education standards are maintained across the country.
