Andoni Chairman Imposes Curfew After Monarch’s Killing

Lucky Promise-Otuo, Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area (ANOLGA), imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Ngo Town and the Olotunbi axis following escalating tension linked to reported killings in the area.

In a statement released by the state government on Monday, the council said the restriction took effect from Sunday, 1 March. The order barred both pedestrian and vehicular movement between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily and remained in force until further notice.

Promise-Otuo said he introduced the measure to restore calm, forestall further violence and protect lives and property in the affected communities.

He strongly condemned the killing of the Traditional Ruler of Agwut-Obolo, Chief Alfred Otoboalama, describing the act as barbaric and unacceptable. He warned that those responsible would not escape justice and would face the full weight of the law.

The chairman also sympathised with the bereaved family and assured residents that the council was working closely with security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

He urged members of the public to remain peaceful and support security operatives with credible information to aid ongoing investigations.

Earlier, The Port City News reported that Promise-Otuo had expressed shock and outrage over the monarch’s death, allegedly carried out by unidentified gunmen, and pledged to pursue the matter until justice was served.
Also, the member representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, expressed deep sadness over the monarch’s death.
Abiante stated that he was shocked by what he described as a brutal and unacceptable act.
