Rivers APC Begins E-Registration to Strengthen Party Structure

The Rivers State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) began its electronic membership registration, joining other states that have adopted the party’s digital reform initiative.

The state party chairman, Tony Okocha, flagged off the exercise, according to a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Jacobs Happiness, and obtained by Port City News (TCPN) on Tuesday.

The e-registration flag-off ceremony took place at the party’s secretariat, where Okocha said the initiative aimed to strengthen the APC’s internal structure and membership database in line with national party reforms.

He stressed that the technology-driven system would ensure accuracy, inclusiveness and credibility in the party’s membership register across the state, while warning that no form of discrimination would be tolerated during the process.

According to the chairman, the e-registration targeted deeper grassroots participation and improved transparency, adding that it would also position the party for effective mobilisation ahead of future political engagements.

Members of the State Working Committee, coordinators and registration trainees drawn from the state’s 23 local government areas attended the flag-off.

Meanwhile, the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the e-registration exercise formed part of the APC’s plan to grow and expand its structures nationwide.

He explained that under his leadership, the party was being rebuilt as a modern, data-driven and people-centred political organisation.

Yilwatda noted that a party that understands its membership, protects its records and values participation would always be ready to win, stressing that he would personally monitor the exercise and hold coordinators accountable for its success or failure in their respective states.

He also urged state chairmen to take the registration process down to the grassroots, including wards, polling units and communities.
