Fubara directs instant employment for veterans’, fallen heroes’ children

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Benibo Anabraba, to commence immediate employment for the children of veterans and fallen heroes.

Speaking at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day at Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, Port Harcourt, the governor said the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to provide social and economic support to the families.

“I want to state that, in line with our support, the Secretary to the State Government has been given a marching order to ensure that the employment promised by the State Government for the children of our veterans is immediately implemented.

“So, Secretary, we have no reason to delay that employment, as it forms part of our social and economic support to the families,” Fubara said.

He also urged citizens to resolve to build a strong and resilient nation that remembers its past as they honoured fallen heroes.

The governor added that his administration bore the responsibility of supporting veterans and their families.

Fubara further called on wealthy citizens and corporate bodies to do all they could to enhance the welfare of veterans and their families, including employment, healthcare, and education for their children.

He reiterated that his administration remained committed to supporting the federal government, the armed forces, and other national security agencies in maintaining peace and stability in the state and beyond.

Fubara also pledged to continue strengthening relations with the various military command structures in the state and provide relevant logistical support to enhance their operations, efficiency, and well-being.

“We will also continue to advance the welfare and well-being of members of the Nigerian Legion and their families through good, inclusive governance and the provision of direct social and economic opportunities,” he said.

He promised to leverage diversity to build a united, peaceful, secure, and vibrant nation, anchored in justice, freedom, and fundamental rights, where no one is oppressed and the benefits of economic progress are fairly distributed and accessible to all.

The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for his unparalleled commitment to building a strong military capable of defending the nation’s sovereignty and addressing internal security challenges.

“We also commend our President for equipping our armed forces with modern weapons and motivating them through significantly improved salaries and welfare packages, which have delivered measurable successes in his administration, as demonstrated in the fight against Boko Haram and related terrorism,” Fubara added.
