Rivers United Fail To Beat Enugu Rangers

Rangers International Football Club, popularly known as Enugu Rangers, held league leaders Rivers United to a draw on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The Port Harcourt-based side failed to extend their lead at the top of the table as both teams shared the spoils in the encounter.

Despite several attempts from both sides to find the breakthrough, the match ended in a goalless draw.

Rivers United remained top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table with 38 points from 20 matches, having recorded 10 wins, eight draws and two defeats.

Abia Warriors followed closely in second place with 34 points from the same number of games in the 2025/2026 season.

Rangers sat sixth on the table with thirty points, having won eight, drawn six, and lost six.

Before the clash, the Flying Antelopes had maintained an impressive unbeaten home record this season, winning seven matches and drawing twice in the league.

Rangers also extended their strong home run against Rivers United, remaining unbeaten in their last four league meetings in Enugu, with two wins and two draws.

Rivers United managed just one win in their last 10 visits to Enugu, with Godwin Aguda’s eighth-minute strike in 2021 securing their only maximum points during that period.

In recent seasons, Rivers United lost 1–0 to Rangers in April last season, suffered the same defeat in January 2024, and played out a 1–1 draw in May 2023, when Ebube Duru cancelled out Samuel Pam’s opener in the 53rd minute with a superb strike.
