Fayose: Only Fasting, Prayers Can Save Fubara from Impeachment

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara could only escape impeachment through fasting and prayers.

According to The Port City News (TCPN), the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, alleging misconduct following disagreements over the governor’s failure to present the 2026 budget.

Speaking during an interview on Friday, Fayose urged Fubara to reconcile with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

“Many prayers will be said to save Fubara. So many fasts and prayers will be the only thing that can save him in this situation,” Fayose said.

He further blamed Fubara for failing to honour agreements reached in Abuja and recalled that he was in Port Harcourt during Fubara’s swearing-in as governor in 2023. Fayose said Wike never imagined that Fubara would betray him.

Fayose added that he prayed God would touch Wike’s heart and expressed hope that President Bola Tinubu would intervene to calm tensions and avert further danger.

“One will be in his house before he realises the danger,” Fayose said. “I never imagined this situation would arise between Governor Fubara and Governor Wike. I was seated at the high table on the day Fubara was sworn in. I told Wike I wanted to advise Fubara not to betray him. Wike said, ‘He cannot do it.’

“In my usual way of speaking the truth, I later told Fubara, ‘My brother, lock all your windows, don’t listen to people. These are the people who brought you. Remain with them and don’t look for Wike’s trouble.’”

As the impeachment process continues, several individuals, political parties and groups have condemned the move and called for it to be halted.
