2026: NOA Urges Nigerians to Unite Against Insecurity

As part of efforts to promote safety in 2026, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to unite in the fight against insecurity.

The agency made the call in a statement posted on its X page on Friday, quoting its Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to embrace a renewed spirit of patriotism, collective responsibility and civic engagement as critical tools for fostering national peace and development.

In his New Year message, he said citizens also had an important role to play while the government continued to intensify efforts to secure the country.

According to him, the battle against insecurity could only be won through the active involvement and cooperation of all Nigerians.

He stressed that collective effort remained the most effective weapon against forces threatening national peace and development, noting that insecurity often thrived in societies where citizens felt disconnected from national affairs.

The NOA boss therefore called on Nigerians to become more involved in the nation’s affairs and to stand united against forces seeking to divide the country along ethnic, religious and regional lines.

He added that restoring faith in the Nigerian project required more than government action, but a widespread revival of national values at all levels.

Issa-Onilu also praised President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling insecurity, highlighting recent collaboration with the United States that led to a decisive airstrike on terrorist enclaves.

He described the operation as a testament to the President’s leadership and dedication to protecting Nigerians.

According to him, partnerships with foreign allies continued to strengthen national security efforts and boost global confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture.

He further urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations and youth groups to take more active roles in promoting peaceful coexistence, tolerance and respect for the rule of law.

Issa-Onilu wished Nigerians a year filled with peace, unity and the fulfilment of both personal and national aspirations, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a better country.
