PDP Slams Tinubu Administration in New Year Message, Demands Real Action on Hardship

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its New Year message, declaring that Nigerians can no longer tolerate excuses amid escalating economic hardship, insecurity, and chaos.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described the daily realities facing millions of Nigerians as a “grim nightmare” of insecurity, economic pain, and uncertainty.

“As millions of suffering Nigerians limp into 2026 amid skyrocketing hardship, killings, and chaos, the Federal Government must wake up and fulfil its primary duty to protect lives and property,” Ememobong said.

He emphasised that the new year “cannot be another round of empty promises” but must mark a turning point with “real, people-first action.”

The opposition party stressed that leaders are “servants, not rulers,” and called for an end to partisan politics in favour of genuine accountability, humility, and adherence to the rule of law. It warned that decisions must prioritise the interests of Nigerians over political survival.

Ememobong also took aim at key institutions, including the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies, urging them to resist external pressure, bribery, and intimidation. “Democracy dies when justice is sold and impunity runs wild,” he stated.

As the main opposition, the PDP pledged unwavering solidarity with citizens in the struggle for a fairer society, where opportunities and resources are not allocated based on party affiliation or proximity to power.

“We will continue to speak truth to power, hold this government accountable, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people until governance truly serves their needs, welfare, and aspirations,” the statement read.

Despite its internal challenges, the party expressed confidence in mounting a strong challenge ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP’s message comes as Nigerians usher in the new year amid persistent concerns over rising living costs, insecurity, and economic policies. The party extended New Year greetings but insisted that “real change starts now.”
