PDP Blasts Wike Over Fresh Declaration of Support for Tinubu in 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a “permanent agent provocateur” whose “mask is off” following his recent reiteration of support for President Bola Tinubu’s presumed bid for the 2027 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a strongly worded press statement issued on Monday 29 December 2025 by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP accused Wike of confirming the grounds for his earlier expulsion from the party over anti-party activities.

“By his end-of-year media chat, Minister Nyesom Wike has reiterated his support for, and in fact declared that he is the ‘number one supporter’ of the presumptive candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election, while remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read.

The PDP described Wike’s open alignment with the APC while claiming PDP membership as a “locus classicus of anti-democratic adventurism,” adding that his behaviour is not new but part of a longstanding pattern of causing trouble to advance selfish interests.

The party recounted Wike’s history of instability within the PDP leadership, citing his roles in the crises surrounding former national chairmen Modu Sheriff, Uche Secondus, and Iyorchia Ayu.

“From the Sheriff era, where he championed and later fought to remove Sheriff; to pushing for Secondus and then leading efforts to oust him; and similarly installing Ayu only to spearhead the ‘Ayu-must-go’ campaign,” the statement noted.

Within Rivers State, the PDP highlighted Wike’s alleged imposition of candidates, exclusionary practices, and the controversial barring of a duly nominated PDP presidential candidate from campaigning in the state during previous elections as “troubling departures from democratic norms.”

“Wike’s politics thrives on perpetual conflict, feeding on attention and seeking relevance through calculated disruption,” the party said, adding that his recent media appearance revealed “obvious signs of fear” over losing President Tinubu’s attention, his grip on Rivers State politics, and frustration with the PDP’s national leadership.

The statement further alleged that Wike and his allies, including former National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, have now openly chosen to undermine the PDP in favour of the APC as part of a “clandestine agreement” for personal gain. It warned that any such agreements aimed at illegal purposes are unenforceable.

Despite the challenges, the PDP expressed confidence in its future, assuring Nigerians that it will present a credible presidential candidate who will garner massive support and win in 2027.

“Our party is the Peoples Democratic Party, and no one person has the capacity to personalise the party,” Ememobong emphasised.

He praised the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee for its efforts to rebuild the party, resolve ongoing court issues, and position it for electoral success.

The FCT Minister who has consistently denied plans to formally join the APC while affirming his support for President Tinubu, is yet to respond to the fresh statement issued by the PDP.
