The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS, JP, has launched an intensified citywide sanitation exercise aimed at restoring Port Harcourt to its renowned Garden City status.
The renewed campaign, tagged Operation Keep Port Harcourt Clean, Green and Beautiful, began on Monday with an aggressive environmental cleanup across major parts of the city.
Leading the operation, the Head of the Sanitation Team, Mr. Christian Mgbamoka, mobilised dozens of sanitation workers along the Aba Road corridor, carrying out mop-up and clearing activities around key locations. Areas covered include the Waterlines Flyover, Garrison Flyover, and other spots identified as requiring urgent environmental intervention.
As part of the expanded efforts, the sanitation unit also received an excavator on Monday to commence immediate desilting and clearing of the canal beside Lasmall Hotel along the Elekahia–Rumuakalagbor Link Road. Officials say the desilting exercise is crucial to improving drainage flow and mitigating perennial flooding in surrounding communities.
