HYPREP Reaffirms Quality Assurance in Ogoni Water Projects

Following the collapse of the overhead tank at Gwara Water Station in Khana Local Government Area (LGA), the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has reaffirmed its commitment to quality and accountability in ongoing Ogoni water projects.

Project Coordinator, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, said a high-level committee had been set up to investigate the incident and determine whether structural failure or third-party interference was responsible.

He emphasised in a post shared on Wednesday that HYPREP maintains strict quality assurance through internal and external checks, including the engagement of EcoProject as Project Consultant, as well as supervision by the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and Water Supervisors.

Describing the incident as an isolated case, Zabbey noted that 16 other water stations are functioning efficiently, supplying potable water to over 40 communities, some for more than two years.

He assured the Gwara community that restoration work was underway and appealed for calm, adding that HYPREP remains committed to delivering projects that meet international standards.
