Opobo/Nkoro LG Chairman present N1.44 billion 2025 Supplementary Budget

The Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon. James A. James has presented a Supplementary Budget Estimate of One Billion, Four Hundred and Thirty-Eight Million, Six Hundred and Forty-Five Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty-Nine Naira, Eight Kobo for the 2025 fiscal year to the Legislative Council.

Christened the Budget of Accelerated Development, the Chairman stated that the supplementary appropriation is aimed at addressing critical developmental gaps not captured in the main 2025 budget and deploying fresh revenues for priority projects.

Honourable James explained that the budget would be funded through increased statutory allocations, enhanced internally generated revenue, grants, interventions, and reallocation of contingency funds.

He explained that the budget prioritises six thematic areas such as Infrastructure which envelopes Road rehabilitation, shoreline protection, and completion of the Opobo Mega Shopping Complex to stimulate commerce and fortify coastal defences. Education & Human Capital which caters for the renovation of public schools, ICT literacy programmes, and scholarship schemes for youths.

According to the council Chairman, provisions have been made for Healthcare, Social Welfare, Economic Empowerment, Agriculture, Security and Community Development.

The Chairman urged the Legislative Council to expedite consideration and approval of the budget, describing it as a tool to consolidate past achievements, open new frontiers, and tackle pressing challenges.

He emphasised the administration’s commitment to placing Opobo/Nkoro First in order to build a local government that mirrors the aspirations of its people.
