Fiji Crushes Nigeria’s World Cup Ambition

The Nigerian Women’s Rugby team, known as the Green Falcons, faced off against Fiji’s women’s rugby league team, the Bulikula, early Monday morning in Canada, and were unable to secure their first-ever Rugby League World Cup qualification.

In a dominant display, Fiji Bulikula triumphed over the Nigeria Green Falcons with a score of 62–4, earning the final spot in the tournament — a significant milestone for women’s rugby in Fiji.

In related news, Onuachu has once again been awarded the Turkish Super Lig Goal of the Month.

Cassie Staples, a former star of Australia’s Women’s Sevens, was instrumental in the historic victory, scoring four tries, while her teammates Leilani Asham, Naomi Tegu, and Ebony Lang also contributed to the final score with tries of their own.

Fiji was ahead 28–4 at halftime and maintained control of the game, demonstrating exceptional speed, organization, and tactical discipline against a determined Nigerian team that was also striving for its own historic achievement.

“I’m somewhat at a loss for words but feel incredibly proud of our group today and what our program is achieving in Fiji,” Staples remarked after the game.

“Nigeria played extremely physically and pushed us hard in that aspect. They are not a weak team, and I am excited about the future development of rugby league in their nation.”

Following this result, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, France, Fiji, Wales, and England have secured their spots for next year’s Women’s Rugby League World Cup in Australia.

This victory not only affirms Fiji’s position on the world stage but also highlights the increasing strength and depth of women’s rugby league throughout the Pacific, a region that is rapidly becoming a dominant force in the women’s sport.
