Police Arrest Armed Robbery, Car Snatching Suspect In Viral Video

The Rivers State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough following a swift investigation into a viral video showing an armed robbery incident in the Choba area of Port Harcourt on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Irinke-Koko, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, revealed that the incident involved the carjacking of a Toyota Avalon at gunpoint.

Irinke-Koko noted that acting on credible intelligence and with the aid of technical support, police operatives successfully arrested one of the suspects, identified as 42-year-old Mr Iruo Young.

She noted that the suspect, Young, was arrested at his hideout in the Ikoku area of Port Harcourt.

According to the PPRO, during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to his role in the crime and provided key details about the incident.

Irinke-Koko further revealed that the suspect was currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects, recover the stolen vehicle, and retrieve the weapons used in the robbery.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the operatives for what he described as their swift and professional response.

Adepoju also thanked members of the public for their cooperation and the credible information that contributed to the arrest.

The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making the State unsafe for criminals and ensuring the continued safety of lives and property.
