Lulu-Briggs Foundation Offers Free Healthcare to Rivers Residents

The O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, in collaboration with the Dr. Henry Wordu Foundation, is conducting its 44th Free Medical Mission in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The five-day outreach aims to provide critical medical care to thousands of residents who have limited or no access to essential healthcare services. This initiative, which is a major philanthropic effort, is bringing a wide range of medical interventions directly to the community.

On Day 2 of the mission, the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, took a hands-on approach by personally volunteering at the pharmacy. Her commitment extended beyond dispensing medication, as she also took the time to encourage patients awaiting surgery and offer prayers to children preparing for operations. Her compassionate involvement reflects the Foundation’s core vision: to restore dignity to life through accessible healthcare delivered with a human touch.

The medical mission is providing a comprehensive array of services to meet the diverse health needs of the community. By the end of Day 1, the medical team had already treated 741 patients, showcasing the high demand for the services. The breakdown of the patients treated included:

  • General Outpatient Department: 365 patients
  • Eye Unit: 289 patients
  • Pediatric: 37 children
  • Dental Clinic: 15 patients
  • Theatre: 34 surgeries and 1 delivery

The surgical team performed several major procedures, including 19 cataract operations, 10 lipoma excisions, and 4 inguinal herniorrhaphies, demonstrating the mission’s capacity to handle complex medical cases. These surgeries are life-changing for patients who would otherwise be unable to afford such interventions.

The official opening ceremony for the current mission is scheduled for today, with community leaders, partners, and beneficiaries in attendance.

In a statement, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment, saying, “Our goal is simple but profound: to ensure that every person, no matter their circumstance, can access quality healthcare delivered with compassion.”

The foundation’s work stands as a testament to its dedication to enhancing the quality of life for underserved communities and addressing critical healthcare gaps.
