Fubara Visits Hometown After Reinstatement as Governor

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in company of his wife, Valerie and various stakeholders made a triumphant return to his hometown of Opobo, on Sunday where he attended a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, just days after officially resuming duties at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The visit came less than 48 hours after Fubara’s reinstatement, following the suspension of the six-month emergency rule that had cast a shadow over the state’s political climate.

His appearance in Opobo was greeted with excitement, marking a symbolic moment of reassurance for his supporters and the wider citizenry. He called on the Church to remain steadfast in prayers as his administration begins afresh and also reminded them of the need to remain peaceful.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, the governor acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s pivotal role in brokering peace between warring factions. He praised the president for facilitating reconciliation among key political players, notably Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Fubara declared that the crisis which had gripped the state was now firmly behind them. He pledged to focus on consolidating peace, deepening reconciliation, and restoring effective governance.

While highlighting his administration’s priorities, the governor promised to fast-track ongoing infrastructure projects, improve education and healthcare delivery, and stimulate Rivers’ economic revival.

He further called on citizens to rise above political divisions and work collectively toward building what he described as a stronger, more peaceful, and prosperous state.

Expressing gratitude, Fubara thanked Tinubu, the National Assembly, political leaders, religious bodies, and Rivers people for their patience and resilience throughout the turbulent months of uncertainty.
