Rivers State Elders Sue for Peace as Emergency Rule Nears End

Rivers State Elders Council have called on political stakeholders in the state without exception to embrace peace and reconciliation as the end of the emergency rule beckons.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, the Elders council said the restoration of full democratic governance that would bring Governor Siminilayi Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu and the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume their constitutional duties is an opportunity to reflect on issues that led to the crisis in order to avoid a reoccurrence.

Chief Alabrabra while stating that peace and unity is important to the development of Rivers State appealed to individuals and groups fanning the embers of discord to realize that the crisis is over and cease making inflammatory statements.

The statement commended the Governor and the Leadership of the House of Assembly for giving peace a chance, noting that their vow before President Bola Tinubu remains sacrosanct.

It appreciated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, President Bola Tinubu for their role in ensuring peace returns to Rivers state.

According to the statement, the Rivers State Elders Council appreciated the people of the State for their patience and understanding throughout the period of the emergency rule.
