Shettima Assures Enhanced Security, Mourns Borno Attack Victims

Today, Vice President Kashim Shettima has offered his condolences to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the Darajamal community of Bama Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred on Friday night, claimed the lives of both civilians and soldiers. Governor Babagana Zulum visited the community on Saturday to condole with the victims’ families.

In his condolence message, Shettima described the incident as a “profound loss to both the state and the nation.”

He expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Governor Zulum, the people of Borno, and the military, stating, “These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”

He reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the Armed Forces to enhance security operations. This includes deploying advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment to combat terrorist groups nationwide.

Shettima mentioned the President’s approval for the acquisition of additional drones and a directive for all security agencies to intensify and review their operational strategies.

Shettima expressed confidence in the military’s capacity to overcome security challenges and assured both the state government and the affected families of the federal government’s continued support. He noted that Tinubu’s administration is also considering the establishment of state police.

This initiative is based on the belief that certain security challenges require specialized units with an understanding of local terrain and culture, and the ability to effectively network at the grassroots level.

Shettima offered prayers for the bereaved families and reinforced the federal government’s commitment to addressing the security situation in the state.
