The Preliminary tripartite memorandum of understanding to set up a modular refinery in Bille Town in Degema local government area of Rivers state has been described as a positive move in the area of human capital development of the community.
The Outgoing chairman of the Bille Kingdom community development committee CDC, Kemuel Asatubo, stated this to theportcitynews.com Correspondent Tina Amamda, during the handover ceremony of the incoming community development members.
Mr Asatubo stated that the establishment of modular refineries will help curb illegal bunkering activities and environmental pollution in the state. He equally noted that the establishment of modular refineries in the area will create jobs and keep the youths busy.
“We have entered a preliminary tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with KIG Consulting company, one foreign and local to establish a modular refinery in Bille kingdom. After the environmental assessment studies, we can now approach NNPC for registration. It will greatly help to curb illegal bunkering activities within the area”
Meanwhile, the Vice-chairman Bille Kingdom council of chiefs, Alabo Ibitamuno Minapakama, appealed to the state and the federal government to build shore protection in the kingdom to prevent further erosion disaster.
According to him, the kingdom is in need of projects that will improve manpower and infrastructural development amongst satellite towns.
“We need an extension of lands, we have more of mangrove forests. We need the government to assist us to sandfill the area, reclaim the place and give us shore protection because our environment is a coastal one and we suffer a lot from erosion especially when there is heavy downpour it gets into our communities. We know that our able governor can help us solve this problem amongst others ”
Alabo Minapakama further advised the incoming Community Development Committee to work in synergy and transparency in order to maintain the existing peace and unity.
