RIWAMA Reschedules Environmental Sanitation for Saturday

RIWAMA

The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) officially declared on Thursday, September 4, that an environmental sanitation exercise will take place on Saturday, September 6. This initiative is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to promote cleanliness and maintain public hygiene across the state.

It is important to note that this particular cleanup activity was initially scheduled for last Saturday but had to be deferred due to the council elections held on August 30.

The rescheduling was done to allow for the smooth conduct of the electoral process without interference.

Speaking on the upcoming sanitation effort, the Chairman of RIWAMA’s Governing Board, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, issued a stern warning to residents and business owners. He emphasised that individuals who fail to properly clean their surroundings—whether residential compounds or commercial premises—will be held accountable.

According to him, such defaulters will be compelled to bear the financial responsibility for cleaning up the affected areas.

Furthermore, Mr. Nwanosike announced that there will be a restriction on movement during the hours of the sanitation exercise. This measure is aimed at ensuring maximum participation and enabling sanitation workers to carry out their duties without obstruction.

RIWAMA continues to urge members of the public to support the agency’s mission by complying with sanitation regulations and keeping their environment clean, as collective responsibility is key to achieving a healthier and more hygienic society.
