EFCC Grants Tambuwal Bail Over ₦189 Billion Fraud Probe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted administrative bail to former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, following his interrogation over alleged fraudulent withdrawals totaling ₦189 billion during his tenure.

Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, honored the EFCC’s invitation on Monday, arriving at the commission’s Abuja headquarters at 11:16 a.m. He was questioned extensively and detained overnight.

A senior EFCC official, speaking anonymously, confirmed: “He has already been granted administrative bail. We’ve extracted what we need from him and he will soon leave our headquarters after perfecting his bail conditions.”

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale also confirmed the development but declined to provide further details. Sources revealed that Tambuwal’s passport has been withheld, indicating that the investigation remains active A.

The alleged withdrawals are said to violate the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the case has sparked political controversy. Critics, including opposition figures, claim the EFCC is being used to intimidate political adversaries, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections C.

Tambuwal governed Sokoto State from 2015 to 2023, and his camp has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the allegations.
