Rivers State Government pledges support for National Nutrition Initiative

Rivers State’s sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a unified and coordinated approach in supporting the federal government’s Nutrition Seven-Seven-Four Initiative.

Retired Vice Admiral Ibas speaking after being inaugurated along with ten other members of the Rivers State Council on Nutrition by the Senior Special Assistant on Health in the Presidency, Office of the Vice President, Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwukah, at the Government House, Port Harcourt explained that his administration prioritized healthcare and a total of ten-point-eight percent of the 2025 state’s budget has been allocated to the health sector, a position he noted underscores his administration’s resolve to deliver quality and accessible healthcare services across the state.

Sole Administrator Ibas explained that he has directed the establishment of dedicated nutrition units in relevant ministries to ensure effective implementation and alignment with budgetary provisions..

He further announced renewed efforts to boost the state’s food supply chain and value addition through the reactivation of the Songhai Integrated Farms in Bonu Tai Community and the Rivers Cassava Processing Company Limited in Oyigbo, as well as other agro-industrial initiatives aimed at ensuring food security.

In her presentation, Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwukah, who stated that the “Nutrition Seven-Seven-Four Initiative” is a federal government-driven strategy to tackle the growing challenge of malnutrition in the country, said her visit is to inaugurate the State Council and designate a focal person who would coordinate the program.

Mrs Rochas-Anwukah stated that the council is committed to implementing the objectives of the initiative, which is aimed at empowering communities to take action against malnutrition through strengthened structures at the grassroots level.
