Ex-Agriculture Minister Audu Ogbeh Passes On at 78‎

Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has passed away at the age of 78. ‎According to a statement issued by his family, the elder statesman passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025. The tribute described Ogbeh as a man whose life was marked by honour, public service, and dedication to his people.

‎“We are comforted by the many lives he touched and the example he set,” the statement read. “He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community.”

‎Born on July 28, 1947, in Efugo-Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, Ogbeh was widely respected as a farmer, playwright, and politician. His career spanned decades in public service, including his tenure as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2015 to 2019, during which he championed reforms aimed at boosting food production and supporting rural farmers.

‎He also served as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 2001 and 2005, and earlier in his political career, was appointed Minister of Communications during the Second Republic from 1982 to 1983.

‎Outside politics, Ogbeh was a literary figure, authoring five plays that are still referenced in Nigerian literature. Colleagues, political associates, and admirers remember him as a man of ideas, vision, and unwavering patriotism.

‎Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
