WAEC Dismisses Fake News on Cancelled Results and Script Requests

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a warning to the public to be wary of circulating fake news regarding the cancellation of results and requests for candidate scripts.

The Port City News earlier reported that WAEC announced the release of the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for high school students on Monday.

The council’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), refuted claims that the results of specific schools had been nullified, labelling the reports as false and originating from unverified sources.

Adesina urged candidates, parents, and school administrators to exercise caution and verify any information they encounter, particularly on social media platforms.

She stressed that such viral messages are not from any official or accredited WAEC source.

“Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled,” Adesina stated.

She also debunked another false claim suggesting that some examination centres were instructed to bring candidates’ scripts to WAEC offices.

Adesina clarified that all scripts are kept under strict security throughout the marking and investigation process and that the council would never ask a centre to deliver them to its office.

WAEC emphasised that all official announcements are exclusively made through its verified social media handles and accredited media channels.

The council advised the public to disregard any messages not disseminated through these official avenues.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and due process, WAEC encouraged the public to report any suspicious messages or sources.

The council also reassured candidates awaiting their results that any delays or investigations are being handled with fairness and professionalism.
