Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala is yet to return to her club Bay FC, but the American side has already begun celebrating her role in Nigeria’s historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory last Saturday.
During their final match of the summer series against Urawa Reds Ladies at PayPal Park on Sunday, the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team paid tribute to the Nigerian forward by showcasing her image holding the WAFCON trophy on the stadium screen.
“That’s our champion. Sending our love and congrats from PayPal Park,” the club posted on X (formerly Twitter), while the stadium announcer also acknowledged Oshoala’s achievement to fans in attendance.
Oshoala, a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, featured in her sixth WAFCON tournament this year. She opened Nigeria’s scoring campaign with a goal in their 3-0 group stage win over Tunisia and played a pivotal role in helping the Super Falcons secure their record-extending title.
She started in Nigeria’s first two group games and was later introduced from the bench in both the quarter-final against Zambia and the showdown with hosts Morocco.

Before the tournament, the 30-year-old had been absent from national team duty since the Olympics, dealing with personal matters. She addressed her time away in a pre-tournament interview.
“It’s been a while since I played with the national team,” she explained. “There have been personal issues I needed to handle. But when I’m here, I’m here to give my best, to score goals, support my teammates, and help us win.”
Amid rumours during the tournament suggesting she had retired from international football, Oshoala was quick to set the record straight.
“I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s where my focus is,” she clarified.
Since making her debut in the competition in 2012, Oshoala has now lifted the WAFCON trophy four times, further cementing her legacy as one of Africa’s greatest female footballers.
