Rivers Community Protests Marginalization By Siat

Gladys Nweke

Angry indigenes of Ozuzu Community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State have accused management of Siat Nigeria Limited of sidelining their people in employment, scholarships, social amenities and other corporate social responsibilities.

The protesters who were mainly men, women, youths, elders and chiefs, claimed that the management of the company has been insensitive to the pains of their people.

Speaking with TPCN, one of the protesters, Mr. Wilson Nwachukwu, said that their people have been denied their rightful positions in the company despite the free land they acquired from the people without compensation.

He said the then company, RISONPALM had a Memorandum Of Understanding with the community before but now that Siat has taken over the company, it has refused to adhere to the MoU.

It will be recalled that RISONPALM was owned by Rivers State Government in which they promised the People of Ozuzu equal opportunities and today, nothing has happened to the people.

In another development, the community leaders have called on the company to vacate their land peacefully to avoid ugly incidents.
