A Healthy Lifestyle Is Identified as A Means to Curb High Plood Pressure

Regular exercise and frequent medical check-ups have been identified as means to curb high blood pressure. Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, a medical expert, Dr. Paul Edugbo, described high blood pressure as a disease that occurs when the human blood pressure rises above 140 over 90.

He noted that one out of three Nigerians is hypertensive, and about fifty percent of men are living with the disease.

Dr. Edugbo, who said high blood pressure is a silent killer because the symptoms are minimal and undetected until it finally strikes, enumerated sedative lifestyle and unhealthy indulgences as risk factors.

“Let me quickly mention age, stress, lack of exercise, smoking, alcohol intake, and family history,” he said.

Dr. Edugbo advised that a proper diet should be given priority if an individual wants to avoid high blood pressure.

“I think the most important thing we need to look out for is our diet. It is very important because the more you age, the more your diet should switch towards vegetables and fruits. Let me tell you how carbohydrates us processed in the body.

When you take in carbohydrates and you start moving, then it is converted to energy, but when you take in carbohydrates and do not move around, your body converts it to fat that can be a source of fat for your body,” he explained.

He also urged those living with the ailment not to neglect multivitamins to make up for lost nutrients.

“Let me say this in addition, I will encourage every adult to get a good multivitamin because that would supplement what you are taking.
Since our diet is not the best, I will encourage you to get the various types of multivitamins,” he noted.

The physician added that discipline in medication is a key to controlling high blood pressure.
