Huawei Mate 80 Series to Arrive Major Camera Upgrade, SmartSens 50MP Main Sensor Tipped

According to the latest update, it is reported that the new information indicates that Huawei’s forthcoming Mate 80 series may be introduced with a significant camera enhancement.

There is speculation that Huawei is set to utilize a domestically produced flagship-level image sensor from SmartSens in its upcoming products. From the information available, the sensor seems to be specifically designed for high-performance photography in flagship smartphones.

SmartSens SC595XS to drive the Mate 80’s primary camera
The sensor in question is the SmartSens SC595XS, a 50-megapixel mobile CMOS image sensor featuring a 1/1.28-inch sensor size, which was officially announced last month. Utilizing the company’s SuperPixGain HDR technology, it achieves an extensive dynamic range of up to 110dB—approximately 22dB greater than its predecessor on the same platform.

This sensor is engineered to manage intricate lighting situations, including severe backlighting and high-contrast environments, effectively maintaining details in both highlights and shadows. It also facilitates 4K video recording at 60fps with HDR and 120fps at standard high frame rates, providing an advantage for mobile videography.

Moreover, the SC595XS incorporates 1.22μm large pixels and is constructed on the SFCPixel-2 architecture. This design enhances light sensitivity and minimizes noise levels, which are especially advantageous in low-light conditions.

It also features rapid autofocus through a dual-mode system, including 100% full-pixel phase detection, ensuring swift and precise focusing even in dimly lit settings.

Huawei Mate 80 series anticipated for year-end release

Huawei is anticipated to reveal the Mate 80 series, which may encompass the Mate 80, 80 Pro, 80 Pro+, and Mate 80 RS Master edition by the year’s end. These devices are expected to be powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset. While official confirmation is still pending, the integration of the SmartSens SC595XS in the main camera configuration underscores Huawei’s ongoing commitment to domestic innovation and competitive imaging capabilities.
