Nigerian International Ola Aina Extends Stay with Nottingham Forest Until 2028

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has put an end to recent transfer speculation by committing his future to Nottingham Forest. The 28-year-old signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.

This extension follows a standout season in which the former Chelsea defender was a key performer for the Tricky Trees. Aina, a former Torino player, was instrumental in Forest’s impressive seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, a result that secured them a spot in the UEFA Conference League for the upcoming campaign.

He contributed two goals and one assist across 35 league appearances, showcasing both defensive solidity and consistent performance at right-back.

His strong displays attracted interest from several clubs, notably Premier League powerhouse Manchester City, who were linked with him in the January transfer window as a potential replacement.

The uncertainty surrounding Aina’s future was compounded by his previous contract, which was initially set to expire at the end of the last season.

However, an automatic one-year extension clause was activated when Forest avoided relegation, extending his stay through the 2025-26 season.

Despite this, the club remained eager to secure him on a longer-term deal, and their efforts have now paid off.
According to reports from The New York Times, Aina’s new agreement is a two-year extension, ensuring his presence at the City Ground for the next three seasons.

This renewal comes on the heels of similar contract extensions for manager Nuno Espirito Santo and promising centre-back Murillo, signalling Forest’s intent to build a stable squad.
