Nigeria international Ademola Lookman has praised Atlético Madrid’s determination after the Spanish side secured a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League.
The encounter at the MHPArena saw Stuttgart take the lead through Jamie Leweling, who finished brilliantly in the 36th minute.
Lookman, introduced after the break, made an immediate impact by setting up Julián Álvarez for Atlético’s equaliser in the 48th minute.
Atlético faced a further challenge when they were reduced to 10 men with 25 minutes remaining following Morten Hjulmand’s dismissal for a foul on Angelo Stiller.
Despite the setback, Diego Simeone’s side held on to claim a share of the points in a closely contested encounter.
Reflecting on the performance, Lookman acknowledged Stuttgart’s strength, particularly on home soil, but praised his teammates for responding positively after the interval.
“I think they obviously started strong, they’re a strong team. Playing away from home is never easy. But we wanted to change the tie in the second half, which we did with the goal,” the Nigeria international said.
Lookman’s assist underlined his influence after coming off the bench, as Atlético showed resilience to leave Germany with a draw.
