The Labour Party standard-bearer for Ikwerre State Constituency, Hon. Stasi Amadi, has pledged her support for measures to rid Rivers State of crime if elected. She spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt shortly after completing her security profiling with the Department of State Services (DSS).
Amadi said she wants to help build a peaceful and secure Rivers State where residents can move freely and run legitimate businesses without fear, adding that security is fundamental to economic and social development.
She noted that insecurity and violence have at times disrupted normal social life in the state, including nightlife, and said this should no longer be accepted as a way of life. Her priorities, she said, would include backing initiatives that strengthen security and public confidence so residents can enjoy the state without unnecessary restrictions.
She also said the era in which violence is treated as an inevitable part of elections must end, insisting that political disagreements be resolved through dialogue, tolerance, and democratic engagement. She called on political actors and their supporters to shun violence before, during, and after elections, saying no political ambition is worth the loss of lives and property.

Amadi said Rivers people deserve a vibrant lifestyle in which businesses can operate late into the night, and that restoring the state’s nightlife would require sustained commitment to security and responsible governance. She added that insecurity hurts businesses, investment, and general wellbeing, and urged residents to help security agencies with useful information to prevent crime.
She expressed belief that real change would come only when competent, people-oriented leaders are given the chance to run the state, saying the Labour Party offers an alternative approach to governance. She also said the party’s participation in the Rainbow Coalition has strengthened its resolve to work with like-minded political forces for peace, security, and development in Rivers State.
“We in the Labour Party are out to make positive changes in the state. We are operating under the Rainbow Coalition, and that is why we are confident that things will henceforth work out better for Rivers people,” she said.
