The Rivers State Government has urged youths across the state to take part in the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise, saying it offers a chance to build a career in the military and contribute to national development.
Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, appealed on Friday at an interactive meeting between Nigerian Army representatives, traditional rulers, and youth leaders from the state’s 23 local government areas.
He said military service gives young people opportunities to gain valuable skills, further their education, and prepare for greater responsibility, and that the future strength of the military depends on the quality of the young men and women it recruits. “Today’s recruits and junior officers are the senior commanders and leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
The leader of the Army Headquarters sensitisation team, Brigadier-General B. U. Ugbaji, also urged Rivers youths to apply. He said President Bola Tinubu had mandated the recruitment of 28,000 personnel and stressed that eligible youths in Rivers should fully use the state’s quota.

He expressed concern that the region’s representation in the military is declining and warned that low participation could shrink it further. “The quota from this region is reducing. In the future, we may not have representatives,” he said.
He encouraged interested candidates to meet the qualifications and apply for the ongoing 92 Regular Recruit Intake, which covers both tradesmen and non-tradesmen and women, adding that the military offers opportunities for educational advancement and career progression.
Speaking for traditional rulers, the Gbenemene and Kasimene of Ancient Bangh Kingdom VIII, HRM King Suanu T. U. Baridam, pledged that monarchs would return to their communities to sensitise youths about the exercise. Youth representatives from the 23 LGAs also used the meeting to seek clarification on the recruitment process.
Online applications close on October 21, 2026, and candidates are to apply through the Nigerian Army’s recruitment portal, recruitment.army.mil.ng.
