The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has directed workers in all 23 local government areas to begin a three-day warning strike from midnight on October 8, 2026.
In a circular dated October 7, the union said the decision followed an emergency meeting of its State Executive Council on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The meeting deliberated on issues affecting members over the implementation of the Local Government verification exercise in the state.
The circular was addressed to State Administrative Council members, branch chairmen, and all local government workers in the 23 LGAs.

The union directed all local government employees, including principal officers and staff, to withdraw their services for the duration of the strike.
State Administrative Council members and branch chairmen were mandated to ensure full compliance and effective mobilisation in their areas. Workers were also advised to stay peaceful, orderly, and law-abiding and to avoid any act that could undermine the purpose of the action.
The circular was signed by the union’s State Secretary, Comrade Sunday Adeniran, Ph.D. It urged members to remain united, resolute, and committed to the collective struggle to protect their interests and those of the local government system in Rivers State, and to treat the directive with utmost importance and strict compliance.
