Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has made a remarkable impact at the box office, generating more than N71 million from preview screenings ahead of its official nationwide release.
According to Nigerian Box Office (@NGAboxoffice), the film earned approximately N70 million from 12,134 admissions during its preview run between September 25 and October 1, making it the highest-grossing single-day preview release ever recorded in West Africa.
The performance also established a series of milestones for the production. The film recorded the biggest first-day admissions figure of 2026, the highest first-day gross for a Nollywood title this year, and the largest single-day box office revenue recorded in October.
Distributor Nile Entertainment confirmed the achievement, describing the film as the biggest faith-based opener in Nigerian cinema history.
In a statement celebrating the milestone, the company said:
“From the biggest first-day gross for a Nollywood title to the biggest faith-based opener of all time, the biggest single-day previews in West Africa (₦71M+), and the number one movie of the week, the legend didn’t just return — it roared back.”
The distributor added that the film’s preview earnings had surpassed the N71 million mark as audience interest continued to grow ahead of its full theatrical rollout.
Now showing in cinemas nationwide, Agbara Nla: The Return arrives 33 years after the release of the original Agbara Nla, one of the most influential faith-based productions in Nigerian cinema history.
Originally produced by renowned Christian filmmaker Mike Bamiloye in 1993 and later released in English as The Ultimate Power in 1994, the classic film became a landmark title within the gospel movie industry.
The new production revisits the story of Muwonleru, a community dominated by the feared herbalist Isawuru. The plot follows two Christian believers, Olaboye and Olatomi, who leave their urban lives behind to spread the gospel in the village, setting the stage for a dramatic confrontation between faith and traditional spiritual power.
Mike Bamiloye reprises his iconic role as Isawuru, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye direct the sequel.
The cast features Aanu Kolade Abiodun, Remilekun Mosiko, Philip Olubakin, Gloria Mike-Bamiloye, and David Kola Okeowo.
With record-breaking preview numbers and strong audience interest, Agbara Nla: The Return has already positioned itself as one of the most significant Nollywood releases of 2026.
