As the NPFL rescheduled Matchday 2 clash between the Katsina United of Katsina and the visiting side— Rivers United took place on Wednesday 30th September, it was announced that both team shared the spoils as they played out a 1-1 draw at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Wednesday.
The report stated that the pride of Rivers took the lead just after the break as Samson Olasupo found the back of the net in the 47th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
The Garden City boys, who arrived on the back of a six-match unbeaten run, were on course to record another vital away victory. But Katsina United equalised almost immediately after the restart.
The NPFL scoresheet revealed that Sani Mubarak scored a nicely-taken free-kick in the 50th minute to beat the Rivers United defence and keeper to the mark, drawing the home side back to 1-1.
Both sides went close to recording a winner, but neither could find the decisive blow to separate the sides before the final whistle. The result meant that the points were shared in an entertaining encounter.
For Finidi George side, the point earned means they remain unbeaten in the league but missed out on maximum points on the road. The Port Harcourt club had earlier registered a 5-0 win over Kun Khalifat before being held to a goalless draw by Ranchers Bees.
The result also meant that Rivers United climbed to 12 points from six matches, according to the latest league standings, while Katsina United improved their position after earning a point at home.
The game was part of four rescheduled Matchday 2 fixtures on Wednesday, as Enyimba defeated Shooting Stars 4-2, Rangers beat Warri Wolves 1-0, and Sporting Lagos drew 0-0 with Ikorodu City.
Rivers United will host Ikorodu City at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on October 4 in their next league game, while Katsina United will prepare for their next fixtures as the NPFL campaign resumes.
