Nigerians have taken to social media to express their frustration following the Super Eagles’ 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The Super Eagles suffered a disappointing loss at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Tuesday night.
Franculino Djú opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half after receiving a pass from Renato Nhaga.
Guinea-Bissau strengthened their grip on the contest in the second half when captain Mama Baldé doubled the advantage.
Álvaro Djaló completed the rout with a third goal deep into stoppage time.
The result left many Nigerian football fans disappointed, with several supporters questioning the performance of both the players and coaching crew.
Some fans singled out individual players for criticism, while others called for improvements ahead of Nigeria’s next qualifiers.
Below are some reactions shared on X after the match:
@akwaibomdaily: “The only serious footballer in the Super Eagles is Bassey. Nwabali, Bruno, Moses and Ajayi are very unserious players.”
@_AbiolaPharays: “It is the duty of the Super Eagles to always make us sad. It isn’t time to bring our calculators out because there are still matches to play.”
@Habatovation1: “It’s not by FIFA ranking but by quality football. Again, this is to remind you that the current Super Eagles can’t produce anything.”
@BukolaOfGod: “Super Eagles have some of the best players in the top leagues in the world, yet they always perform poorly when it comes to playing for Nigeria. What exactly is going on?”
@Elishama: “The Super Eagles are a total disgrace.”
@Trinityter77: “Stanley Nwabali should never be called to the national team again after this match against Guinea-Bissau.”
@GodwinsOE: “We need to have a serious Ademola Lookman discussion. He has been poor for both club and country lately.”
@sportingshina: “Most times, Super Eagles coaches take the blame for poor performances, but I think it’s high time the players were held accountable too.”
@sorungbefaith: “Eric Chelle trusting players because they started his tenure will cost him his job.”
Nigeria are currently second in Group L with three points from two matches, while Guinea-Bissau lead the standings with six points.
The Super Eagles will return to action in November when they face Tanzania in a crucial double-header.
