The Asari-Toru 8th Legislative Assembly has backed an elderly welfare outreach programme initiated by the Councillor representing Ward One, Hon. Tyger Diepiriye A., as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots representation in the local government.
The lawmakers joined Diepiriye on Monday, September 28, 2026, for the launch of the constituency intervention programme, which provided cash assistance to elderly residents of Ward One.
The initiative was aimed at supporting senior citizens and improving their social welfare, with beneficiaries receiving cash gifts during the outreach.
The event also featured the presentation and unveiling of the DA-GEORGE OLIKINS symbol, which was formally unveiled by the Leader of the Asari-Toru 8th Legislative Assembly, Alabo Rt. Hon. Ibifiri Clinton George.
The legislative leader commended Diepiriye for prioritising the welfare of elderly constituents and undertaking community-based interventions.
He said effective representation should extend beyond legislative duties to include meaningful engagement and initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to residents at the grassroots.
George also commended the people of Ward One for their support and cooperation with their elected representative, stressing the importance of participatory governance and collective responsibility in community development.
In his remarks, Diepiriye expressed appreciation to Dr. Dawari I. George, Hon. Granville Tekenari Wellington, Member Representing Asari-Toru Constituency I in the Rivers State House of Assembly, and Hon. Onengiyeofori George, PhD, DSSRS, Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, for their leadership, support and encouragement.
He reaffirmed his commitment to constituency engagement and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents, particularly elderly members of the community.
The elderly beneficiaries and other constituents welcomed the initiative, commending the councillor for extending constituency representation to include direct welfare and community development interventions.
