Port Harcourt is set to host another celebration of one of Nigeria’s most familiar staples as Garri Fest 5.0 takes over the city on Sunday, October 4.
The festival is scheduled to hold at the Model Secondary School Field, beside the Polo Club in GRA, Port Harcourt, with activities expected to begin from 12 noon.
Garri Fest is positioned as a cultural and entertainment experience centred around garri and its place in Nigerian life. Organisers say the festival is designed to celebrate Nigerian culture while connecting people from different backgrounds through processed cassava.
The 2026 edition is expected to combine food, music, games and dance as part of the festival’s “Back to Our Roots” theme, giving attendees an opportunity to experience garri beyond its everyday role on the Nigerian dining table.
Garri has long remained one of Nigeria’s most recognisable staple foods, enjoyed in different forms across various regions. From garri soakings to eba and other creative combinations, the food has also become part of Nigeria’s social and cultural identity.
The festival is also returning after previous editions in Port Harcourt. Its 2025 edition was held at Model Secondary School Field in GRA and was promoted as a celebration of culture and community through the love of garri.
For this year’s edition, ticket prices are currently listed online, while event listings place the start time at 12 noon.
With food, music, games, dance and cultural activities expected to feature, Garri Fest 5.0 is shaping up as one of the food-and-culture events to watch in Port Harcourt as the city heads into the October entertainment calendar.
