A Rivers State resident, Mr Paul Chimodo, has raised concerns over the worsening flooding in Iriebe, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, following the reported death of a 38-year-old man.
According to Chimodo, the man reportedly drowned after falling into floodwaters at the Rivers State Government Housing Estate.
He said the flooding had also made movement difficult for children in the area, particularly those going to school, as there is currently no accessible route for them to navigate the flooded area safely.

Chimodo explained that parents and guardians have been forced to carry their children on their backs to and from school to prevent their uniforms from getting soaked or damaged by the floodwaters.
He described the situation as an unbearable burden for residents and appealed to the Rivers State Government to urgently intervene and provide a solution before another life is lost.
He urged the authorities to address the flooding and restore safe access routes for residents, particularly schoolchildren.
