The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB) has commenced preparations for its 2027 Annual Operational Plan (AOP), with a review of the implementation of its 2026 plan.
The Board held a two-day operational planning workshop at its headquarters, bringing together key health officials from across the state to assess progress, identify gaps and draw lessons from the current year’s activities.
Participants included directors, Medical Officers of Health from the 23 Local Government Areas, Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), focal persons, National Health Fellows and programme leads.
Speaking during the workshop, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr Dede Seiyofori, called for a careful assessment of the Board’s achievements and areas requiring improvement.

Dr Seiyofori said the review would help the Board determine what had been achieved, identify outstanding activities and develop strategies for addressing identified challenges.
The planning session focused on key primary healthcare priorities, including leadership and governance, access to quality healthcare, maternal and child health, health security and digital health.
Participants also examined health workforce planning, performance monitoring, staff training and community engagement, while considering ways to introduce new approaches into the primary healthcare system.
The review of the 2026 operational plan is expected to provide evidence and practical lessons for developing the 2027 AOP.
The Board said the process would help produce a more targeted and evidence-based plan aimed at strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Rivers State.
