A Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt has ordered the remand of three members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State to the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
The suspects, identified as Confidence Amadi, Chikezie Justice and Isaiah Thomas, were brought before the court by the Rivers State Police Command on allegations of conspiracy, cult-related activities and threat to life.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, the prosecution filed an ex parte application seeking an order to remand the three men in custody.
The prosecution told the court that the Magistrates’ Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and that the remand order would enable the police to transfer the matter to a court with the appropriate jurisdiction.
Presiding Magistrate Obiangeri Onugbum-Onuoha granted the application and ordered that the suspects remain at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until October 2, 2026.
The ADC had earlier stated that the three men were arrested during a peaceful consultation meeting organised by the party’s House of Assembly candidate for Ikwerre Local Government Area, Jeffrey Wobodo, in Isiokpo, ahead of his campaign activities.
The party’s Rivers State Publicity Secretary, Chizy Enyi, alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been attempting to restrict the political activities of opposition parties in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The ADC also rejected the cultism allegations against the three members, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. The party alleged that the arrests were intended to intimidate its members and disrupt its political activities.
The allegations against the suspects have not been established by the court.
